Method for manufacturing plastic bunghole barrels and lid covered barrels and method for reconditioning of bunghole barrels

Used bung type barrels are converted into lid type barrels. A bung type barrel (2) is blow molded with a fixed upper cover (6) having a bung orifice (7) and a carrying ring (12) with an L-shaped cross-section for lifting purposes. For converting to a lid-type barrel the fixed cover is cut away from the barrel body (3) by a circular cut (19) concentric with the barrel axis (13-13) leaving the carrying ring intact to form the opening edge on the barrel neck. A simple lid or a bung-type lid with seal are then clamped to the opening edge. Preferred Features: A similar process is used to convert used bung-type barrels into lid type barrels. In both new and reconditioned barrels an inclined drainage hole (22) is bored through a transition section (17) in the barrel wall between the carrying ring (12) and the start (21) of the upper cover (6) to allow water to run out of a circular channel (16) between these two features.
