PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stave cooler made of copper or a copper alloy for cooling and protecting the furnace body of a blast furnace, which can suppress or eliminate crack generation due to metal fatigue by thermal stress, and a method for mounting it. SOLUTION: The stave cooler 32c for metallurgical furnace to be installed on the steel shell 31 composing the blast furnace is provided with a body 32c' which is disposed inside the blast furnace 30, and a fixing member 36c to be arranged fixing to a steel shell 31 composing the blast furnace 30 at one height position B along the height direction of the blast furnace 30, through, and, to almost eliminate compressive stress caused by thermal expansion due to elevated temperature during operation of the blast furnace 30.
