PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance productivity of both sides recording by reducing the waiting time after a color image being transferred to an intermediate transfer section is formed before a recording sheet arrives in the both sides recording, and to reduce waste of recording sheet upon occurrence of paper jam while lessening burden of recovery processing. SOLUTION: In a recorder performing both sides recording in slow mode in units of recording sheet or in fast mode by rearranging the recording order of an image such that the recording time is quickened as compared with slow mode depending on the number of recording sheets circulating through a carrying passage, slow mode is selected when the developing time of print data of a page being processed next in fast mode, among print data received from an external unit 17, is longer than the developing time of print data of a page being processed next in slow mode plus the carrying time of a recording sheet required for arriving at a transfer region otherwise fast mode is selected and bode sides recording is executed.
