PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain stable image quality insusceptible of various conditions affecting the image quality. SOLUTION: The image quality on a recording material is affected by a sensitivity of a developer when, for example, the recording material is developed. While it is necessary to increase a light quantity of a laser light in order to compensate the lowering of the sensitivity of the developer, a size in a main scanning direction is adjusted by increasing or decreasing a laser driving pulse together with adjustment of the light quantity because a varied quantity of a black width of a dot with respect to the increase of the intensity of the laser light is varied between a main scanning direction and a subscanning direction. In a concrete case, a light quantity setting means reads information necessary for correction from a memory wherein the sensitivity of the developer is related to the laser light quantity and the correction quantity of an emitting time of the laser per one dot, and then the light quantity setting means sets the correction quantity of an image signal.
