A method of printing a polyester or polyolefin film material comprises printing onto the said film a liquid composition containing a curable thermoplastics material and a crosslinking agent therefor and subjecting the printed film to conditions whereby the said composition becomes cured. The preferred polymeric material is a polyvinyl formal and hexamethoxymethylmelamine is used as the curing agent. The composition may also contain a light-scattering material e.g. titanium dioxide and an extender e.g. silica. Printing may be by the intaglio method e.g., by a rotogravure cylinder. After printing the ink is subjected to a temperature, of 220‹ F. e.g., by placing the printed article in a suitable oven whereupon the composition is cured and becomes bonded to the film.</p> |
