PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bag-making and packaging machine in which a trouble that an article engages with a sealing portion is automatically avoided. SOLUTION: The vertical bag-making and packaging machine 20 for packaging a cluster of dropping articles includes a photoelectric sensor 27 and a control section. The sensor 27 senses a tip and an end of the dropping articles. The control section obtains a clearance between the end of previously dropping articles and a tip of subsequently dropping articles based on sensing results of the sensor 27. The control section compares the obtained clearance with a predetermined value to automatically adjust a cycle time.
