PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently adapt a map constant of a plurality of engine control parameters within a comparatively short period of time. SOLUTION: The map constant of a plurality of the engine control parameters is adapted by using genetic algorism within a comparatively short period of time. A new group is formed by forming a specified number of new individuals partial genes of which are changed by making LSB of the control parameters (changing width) the genes, applying one data of the control parameters to one genetic type, regarding combination of data (genetic type) of a plurality of the control parameters to be an adaptive object as one of the individuals, forming an initial group by forming a specified number of the individuals under a proper method at first, leaving only the individuals high in adaptability in following generation by selecting them from the group, and crossing and mutating the individuals in this genetic algorism. Thereafter, the optimum value is found by making the above estimation, selection, crossing, mutation and group formation the one generation and repeating them in a proper number of the generations.
