PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control unit for a vehicle for enabling modulated driving in accordance with selected driving modes. SOLUTION: The operation cycle number of an engine 10 is changed by a cycle change control means 110 in accordance with control conditions or control modes of an automatic transmission 16, for example, speed change modes of the automatic transmission 16. Change width of engine output becomes large due to change of operation cycles to enlarge driving force difference between control conditions or speed change modes in the automatic transmission 16. Modulated driving in accordance with the control conditions or speed change modes can thus be enabled.
