1,014,266. Expanding pistons &c. AUTOMATON ENGINEERING CO., PROPRIETARY Ltd. Oct. 26, 1964 [Oct. 29, 1963], No. 43589/64. Heading B3V. [Also in Division F2] A worn or undersize piston &c. 20a is expanded to the desired size by bombarding the interior of the piston with loose objects (not shown) retained in the piston by a cover 25a, secured, as by elastic bands, on the open end of the piston, the piston being attached to an arm 10 which is oscillated about a pivot 11. A pair of pistons may be clamped on the arm 10 by a bolt 21 passing through the gudgeon-pin holes, and one or both of the pistons may contain eight casehardened mild steel or chilled iron bombardment blocks. The arm 10 has a balance weight 19 and is oscillated by a connecting rod 17 driven, through a crank-pin 16 on a flywheel 14 and a belt 26, by an electromotor 25. The flywheel 14 balances the pin 16 and the connecting rod. |
