PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably preparing a tabular silver halide emulsion excellent in sensitivity to graininess ratio, capable of improving the sharpness of an under layer and having a high aspect ratio on a larger scale. SOLUTION: In the method for preparing a silver halide emulsion using a dispersion medium, the dispersion medium contains at least one low molecular weight methionine gelatin having (1) a mass average molecular weight of <=30,000 and (2) a methionine content reduced to 0-40μmol/g.
