The water load in the compartment used to dry the gas is measured, and the regeneration of the desiccant in the other compartment is regulated as a function of this load. A method for operating a dryer device (7) containing two compartments (8, 9) filled with reusable desiccant, one being used to dry a gas and the other to regenerate the desiccant, involves using the compartment to dry the gas to then regenerate the desiccant, and the other compartment to dry the gas. The water load in the compartment used to dry the gas is measured, and the regeneration of the desiccant in the other compartment is regulated as a function of this load. An Independent claim is also included for a dryer device used in the above method.
