PURPOSE: A double pass and two stage optical fiber amplifier is provided to improve a gain and a noise figure by utilizing a gold-coated mirror at ends and a circulator and 980/1550 wavelength division multiplexer(WDM) at a middle portion. CONSTITUTION: A double pass and two stage optical fiber amplifier improved in a gain and a noise figure includes a signal source(1) for generating a signal light beam, a 980 nm pump light source(2) for generating a 980 nm pump light, an isolator(3) for transmitting the signal light and the 980 nm pump light, a plurality of 980/1550 nm wavelength division multiplexors(WDM)(4), a first stage Erbium doped optical fiber(5), a circulator(6), a band-rejection filter(7), a pair of second stage Erbium dopped optical fibers(8,9) and a gold-coated mirror(10). The double pass and two stage optical fiber amplifier improves the gain and the noise figure thereof by utilizing the circulator(6) and the golt-coated mirror(10) and the double pass and the two stages are configured by the plurality of 980/1550 nm wavelength division multiplexors(WDM)(4) into both ends of the circulator(6), thereby bypassing the 980 nm pump light.
