Detachably secured to a housing of a microphone 1 is a frequency response modifying sleeve 5 which protrudes axially beyond the acoustic inlet 4 of the microphone 1. The sleeve 5 has eyes 6, 7 to which a cord (not shown) is secured whereby the microphone 1 may be supported by the neck of the user. A hole 8 in the sleeve 5 engages with a hemispherical boss on the housing. Alternatively, an annular bead on the housing may co-operate with a mating annular groove in the sleeve 5. The sleeve 5 provides a moderate boosting of the response in a narrow range. If the sleeve (15), Fig. 2 (not shown), has an end portion in the shape of an exponential or conical funnel the treble response is increased over a wide range. A sleeve (25), Fig. 3 (not shown), having an oppositely tapering funnel or having a Helmholtz resonator (9), Fig. 4 (not shown), provides strong boot of treble frequencies in a narrow range. The sleeve (45), Fig. 5 (not shown), may extend the length of the microphone housing and have a longitudinal slot. The sleeve may match the colour of the clothing. It may be of sheet brass, plastics or rubber. The microphone is preferably rod-shaped and may alternatively be carried on a stand or carried in a hand.</p> |
