PURPOSE: A multifunction semiconductor storage device is provided to virtually implement functions of various memory disks and act a removable boot device of the computer system. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor storage media module(1) consists of one or more semiconductor storage media chips. A controller module(2) executes the initialization of the device, the control of the device, the initialization and control of the universal interface, receives a command and data being sent from the host computer, interprets/executes a command and data being sent from the host computer, stores the data in a semiconductor storage module(1) or reads data from the semiconductor storage module(1), and returns the executing result to the host system through the universal interface. A universal interface control module(21) of the controller module(2) executes the connection with the host system, interprets, converts, controls and transmits the universal interface protocol. A microprocessor(22) initializes the universal interface control module(21), detects the status of the memory disk selection switch(4), and virtually realizes a storage function according to protocols with respect to forms of each kind of memory disks(floppy diskette, optical disk, hard disk, ZIP disk, MO disk).
