PURPOSE: Provided are methods for preparing and purifying a water and oil soluble cucurbituril derivative represented by the formula(1) and the use thereof. The cucurbituril derivative has excellent solubility in pure water or conventional solvents, such as methanol, has various sizes of pores thereinside, and forms complexes with organic compounds effectively. CONSTITUTION: The cucurbituril derivative is represented by the formula(1), wherein X is O, S or NH; R1 and R2 are individually selected from the group consisting of C1-C30 alkyl, C1-C30 alkenyl, C1-C30 alkynyl, C1-C30 alkylthio, C1-C30 alkylcarboxyl, C1-C30 hydroxyalkyl, C1-C30 alkylsilyl, C1-C30 alkoxy, C1-C30 haloalkyl, nitro, C1-C30 alkylamine, amine, C1-C30 aminoalkyl, unsubstituted C5-C30 haloalkyl or C4-C30 cycloalkyl having a hetero atom, and unsubstituted C6-30 aryl or C6-C3- aryl having a hetero atom; n represents an integer of 4-20; and m is an integer of 1-7.
