PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the breakage of data due to impact applied during data access in a data storage device to be used mounted on a vehicle. SOLUTION: An access control means 102 receives a signal from a recess/ projection sensor 100 and sends a signal of permitting access to a hard disk 106 to a CPU 104 when the size of the recess and projection is not larger than a prescribed value. The prescribed value is set to be such a height of recess/ projection by which estimated impact force to be applied to the data storage device which is calculated from the height of the recess/projection, the speed of the vehicle and the mechanical vibration transmitting characteristic of wheels and a suspension is over the shock-resistance performance of this data storage device. Since the impact force depends also on the size of the recess/projection and the speed when going over this recess/projection, the prescribed value of the height of the recess/projection is expressed as the function of the vehicle speed.
