A curtain 10 is suspended from a support rail 12 or 54 by retaining members arranged on the curtain, either the rail or the retaining members consisting of a magnetized material and the other of a ferro-magnetic material or both may consist of a magnetized material. The retaining members may be in the form of a magnetic or an iron or nickel foil strip 30, Fig. 2, secured to a gathering tape 20 on the curtain 10, or they may comprise ferrite magnets 88, Fig. 10, sewn on to the tape 20, which magnets may be moulded into a synthetic plastics covering 90. Alternatively the tape 20 may have a magnetic powder lining or a textile strip with pockets containing magnets may be sewn to the curtain, which has already be gathered, or inserted into a loop of the upper hem. The support rail 54, Fig. 10, may be formed to provide a channel 58 in which magnets 88 are guided. A pelmet 74 may be hinged to the rail 54.
