PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for retrieving an element with an element attribute and a relation to a tree structure as conditions, with respect to data written in an XML(extensible markup language), etc., in which data elements belong to the tree structure. SOLUTION: In data retrieval for retrieving a particular element of data composed of elements of relations to the tree structure, the relational condition information showing the relations among individual elements and the other individual elements on the tree structure with respect to elements on the tree structure are stored and managed with respect to each of the elements, the elements of the data are retrieved according to a retrieval attribute condition, that specifies elements with the attribute and type of an element in a retrieval condition, and a retrieval relation condition for specifying an element with a positional relation element in the retrieval condition is retrieved from the managed relation condition information of an element retrieved with the retrieval.
