PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a planar array antenna that can obtain a degree of coupling between a prescribed antenna element and a waveguide easily even if a transmission radio wave becomes high frequency. SOLUTION: A planar array antenna 1 has a waveguide 4 that is demarcated by a first metal plate 2 where a plurality of opening holes 2a are provided at specific intervals, a second metal plate 3 being arranged opposite to the first metal plate 2, and a side plate 8 being connected at the periphery section of the first and second metal plates 2 and 3; a feeding body 5 where a feeding probe 5a is inserted into the waveguide 4 from the second metal plate 3; and antenna elements 7 where a connecting probe 9 is inserted into each opening hole 2a for erecting. The second metal plate 3 includes a waveguide thickness formation means 11 having a surface 11a opposite to a tip section 9a of the connecting probe 9. The farther distance to the feeding probe 5a becomes, the smaller the distance between each tip section 9a and the opposite surface 11 becomes, thus adjusting the degree of coupling between each connecting probe 9 and waveguide 4, and equally setting excitation amplitude due to a transmission radio wave from the feeding probe 5a of each antenna element 7.
