The circuit arrangement has a half bridge arrangement whose output signal is fed to a load circuit (LK) for connection to a fluorescent lamp (LA) with helical electrodes, a preheating device for the electrodes and a preheating power determination device. The power flowing in the load circuit during preheating is determined by the power determination device. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a method of operating a fluorescent lamp.
