PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the data amount of an image file to be transmitted to a portable telephone. SOLUTION: The colors of pixels constituting an image represented with image data are specified by using a color palette table. Color palettes representing colors that do not appear in the image are eliminated from the color palette table. Since the data amount of the color palette table included in the image file is made small, the data amount of the image file is also made small.
