PURPOSE: A movable type outer diameter measurement apparatus and method is provided to allow users to measure outer diameter without directly using a measurement instrument, while reducing weight and size of the measurement apparatus. CONSTITUTION: A movable type outer diameter measurement apparatus, comprises a linear variable resistance device unit(11) having a side with an elbow(2) coupled with a roller type probe(3) and the other side coupled with a linear variable resistance device(1); a guide roller unit(12) having elbows mounted with guide rollers(41,42), respectively, and an encoder(5) or a decelerating motor(6) mounted in parallel to each axis of guide rollers; a ring(13) where the linear variable resistance device unit and the guide roller unit are mounted; an A/D converter for receiving data signals from the linear variable resistance device and the encoder; a data communication unit for receiving data signals from the A/D converter; a motor control unit for receiving control signals from the data communication unit and transmitting control signals to the decelerating motor; and a computer for receiving data signals from the data communication unit and transmitting control signals to the data communication unit.
