PURPOSE: A method and device for shortening the braking distance of a vehicle is provided to easily achieve shortening of the braking distance and secure stability of a vehicle through double braking. CONSTITUTION: In a method and device for shortening the braking distance of a vehicle, if angular velocity of a brake pedal is over the predetermined value and if the vehicle speed from a speed sensor installed to a wheel is over the predetermined value(S10,11), hydraulic pressure of a brake of the wheel is released(S12) and second hydraulic pressure is applied to the brake(S13). In the step of releasing hydraulic pressure of the brake, fluid communication between a master cylinder and the brake is cut off through a shut-off valve controlled by a control device, and hydraulic pressure primarily applied to the brake is received through a hydraulic control device, installed between the shut-off valve and the brake, controlled by the control device. In the step of applying second hydraulic pressure to the brake, the hydraulic control device increases the received hydraulic pressure to the utmost and supplies to the brake again, and then if foot power detected by a foot power sensor is zero(S14), the shut-off valve is open(S15).
