PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a termination tone cannot be distinguished for each dial-in extension number in the same telephone line as compared with dial-in system. SOLUTION: The telephone exchange 1 containing and connecting a plurality of multifunctional extension telephones 11 and a plurality of telephone lines 1A, 2A and 3A comprises a storage device 18 and a pattern ROM 20 for storing the termination tone pattern for each dial-in extension number in the same telephone line, an office line trunk 15 or a lease line trunk 16 for detecting termination to a multifunctional extension telephone 11 among the plurality of telephone lines, and a central controller 21 for detecting the dial-in extension number of a concerning telephone line upon detecting termination of extension line, specifying the destination multifunction extension telephone by retrieving a corresponding destination extension number from the storage device, retrieving a termination tone pattern corresponding to the dial-in extension number from the pattern ROM 20, and executing termination tone sounding operation for a specified objective multifunctional extension telephone based on the termination tone pattern.
