PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently search for an image from an image database in a client/ server system. SOLUTION: A client process extracts a feature amount from an image to be searched (S1002) and transmits the extracted feature amount to a server process (S1003). Then, the result of search by the server process, based on the feature amount and a GUID(globally unique identifier) specifying the image database are received from the server process (S1004 and S1007), and image data, which is not cached in the client is requested from the server process, based on the search result and GUID (S1008 and S1009).
