PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize an image pickup device which can take an image into an external system and to reduce the power consumption. SOLUTION: An image sensor control circuit 20 own-runs to drive a CCD image sensor 4 and stores horizontal-line portions of picture data in a line memory 30. A signal HREF is raised linked with storage. The external system monitors the signal HREF and supplies an external clock EXCLK to an image pickup device 2 according to its convenience in the period of the H level. A memory control circuit 34 successively outputs image data from the line memory 30 to a data bus 10 synchronously with the clock EXCLK pixel by pixel.
