PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head and its manufacturing method that can be shortened in manufacturing time. SOLUTION: After forming a record gap layer 12 using non-magnetic conductive materials, such as copper, a top magnetic pole 13 is formed on the record gap layer 12 by growing a plating film, using this record gap layer 12 as a seed layer. Since the process which newly forms a seed layer other than the record gap layer 12, and the process which removes this newly formed seed layer selectively become unnecessary unlike the case where the record gap layer 12 is formed using non-magnetic insulating materials, such as an alumina. Accordingly, the number of manufacturing processes is reduced and the manufacturing time of the thin film magnetic head is shortened. |
