PURPOSE: An antagonistic composition containing as a main component an extract of Tribuli Fructus which interrupts the action on a signal transduction pathway related with a xenobiotic response element of a dioxin-like compound is provided. The composition has a low adverse effect on a human body and shows antagonistic action against the dioxin-like compound while effectively reducing toxicity of the dioxin-like compound, and can be thus used as food additives as well as drugs. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of diseases caused by toxicity of a dioxin-like compound contains a pharmaceutically effective amount of a Tribuli Fructus extract and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The dioxin-like compound is selected from the group consisting of PCDD, PCDF and PCB. For an example, 1g of Tribuli Fructus is distilled in 4ml of distilled water at 121deg.C for 30min, 80ml of Tribuli Fructus extract is mixed with 10ml of liquid fructose, 0.5ml of citric acid and 9.5ml of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract to produce a health drink.
