Two or more spaced apart raster images (12, 14) are provided in a transparent material layer (10), the distance (d) between the raster images and the distance (a) between adjacent raster image components (16) being specifically chosen so that a change in the angle of observation of the article surface results in a perceived change of appearance caused by overlapping of the raster images. Independent claims are also included for (a) a method for making the article by applying raster images to individual layers which are then laminated, and (b) a method for making the article by printing both sides of a synthetic film with raster images.
