A venting valve for the crankcase of an IC engine has a tubular housing (26) with inlet (28) and outlet (29) at opposite ends. A cylindrical membrane (19) is clamped between the ends of the housing. The trapped space (20) between the membrane and the housing is vented via a control aperture (21). The outlet of the valve is connected to the inlet manifold of the engine and the membrane restricts the flow as the vacuum level increases in the inlet manifold. The valve automatically opens as the crankcase pressure increases. The valve action can be controlled y pneumatic pressure applied to the control aperture.
