<p>The retaining device (10) is designed to be fitted into the end of the handlebar (24) of a personal vehicle such as a bicycle, a motorcycle, an all terrain vehicle, or a personal water craft. The device (10) has a shackle (44), a cable, or a spring loaded lever (112) which extends out of the distal end (22) of the handlebar (24) whereby it can be used to retain such items as a motorcycle helmet or a flotation vest. The retaining device (10) can optonally include a lock, which can be either a combination lock (12) or a keyed lock. Advantageously, the retaining device (10) is substantially fitted wholly within the handlebar (24) of the vehicle when it is not being used. In various embodiments a cable (60) can be used, and a cap (64), which is adapted to fit over said retaining device, can be attached to the distal end of the cable (60).</p> |
