The invention relates to an electric water heater, particularly an instantaneous water heater, wherein water is heated in a container which is made of two parts (1, 2). Said water heater comprises additional functional components which are used to control the water heater, said functional components being an electric heating device (4), a control device, pressure actuated switches (12, 13) for detecting the removal of water and an overpressure control valve (16). In order to simplify the construction thereof, the functional components are secured on a part of the container (2). As a result, the majority of the mounting operations are carried out on a part of the container (2), whereon the other parts are mounted. A part of the container (1) advantageously forms a section of the housing of the water heater, for example the back wall. Additionally, a part of the container (1) can comprise securing devices (17) for securing a top of a device (6).
