摘要 The method involves periodically generating two filling times for filling the emission limiting device sub-optimally to a first capacity level, and to a second capacity level respectively. The emission limiting device is filled and flushed out during a number of cycles, based on the generated filling times. The oxygen concentration in the exhaust flowing through the device is detected for each sub-optimal filling process. An actual flush time is generated corresponding to the filling times, based on the detected output signal. A value representing the quantity of oxygen included in the emission limiting device is determined as a function of the first and second filling times, and the first and section actual flush times. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for quantifying the included oxygen in an emission limiting device.
