The present invention relates to a process for identifying a compound which is a modifier of angiogenesis, said process comprising contacting a cell or cell extract with said compound, determining whether there is a change in the activity of at least one protein tyrosine phosphatase selected from the group consisting of: PTP-PEST and PTP-1B, and thereby determinig whether the compounds is a modifier of angiogenesis.
