<p>The invention comprises compounds containing ethionylamino groups of N-alkyl- or N-phenyl - ethionyl - amino groups, which correspond to the formula <FORM:0985604/C2/1> in which n represents 1, 2 or 3, A represents a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic radical and R represents a hydrogen atom, a phenyl group or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and salts thereof. The compounds are made by reacting carbyl sulphate in an aqueous medium and in the presence of an acid binding agent with an aromatic primary or secondary mono, di or tri-amine. The aromatic radical of the amine can belong to the benzene, naphthalene, diphenyl, diphenyl ether, diphenyl thioether, diphenyl methane, benzophenone, diphenylamine, diphenylsulphone, azobenzene or stilbene series and may contain as substituents halogen, alkyl, hydroxy, nitro, sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups. The carbyl sulphate may be used as a solid or a solution in an organic solvent miscible with water. As acid binding agents an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium carbonate or bicarbonate, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxides, borates and phosphates, or tertiary organic bases. The reaction is carried out at a pH ranging from 3-7.5 at a temperature from -10 DEG to +50 DEG C. Detailed examples are given.</p> |
