The invention relates to a method for testing the flexural strength of an elongate object (1) which is vertically anchored and provided with support elements extending approximately in the longitudinal direction of said object in a test area. According to the invention, the object (1) is subjected to increasing strain above the anchoring (2) thereof in order to produce a bending moment. Measuring values (24) obtained from the mechanical behaviour of the object (1) are evaluated in order to provide information on the flexural strength thereof. Acoustic vibrations produced during the process wherein the object (1) is subjected to strain are detected and measured as sound events (K1, K2, K3). The respective sound events are analysed as measuring values and are evaluated in order to determine the flexural strength of the object (1).
