PURPOSE: A method for automatically discriminating a broadcasting system is provided to remove the user's manual resetting of standards of a broadcasting system by automatically discriminating and setting the broadcasting standards of input image signals. CONSTITUTION: A method for automatically discriminating a broadcasting system includes the steps of determining whether a video signal is detected, counting the number of horizontal synchronizing signals of a predetermined section by separating the synchronizing signals when the video signal is detected(203), determining a transmission system corresponding to the counted value of the horizontal synchronizing signals(205), determining a frequency of a color burst signal included in the video signal, determining a color system corresponding to the frequency value of the color burst signal(208), and determining a broadcasting system by combining the determined transmission system and color system.
