The traffic signal apparatus has lighting fittings (4,5,6,7) mounted at ground level to mark a pedestrian crossing (11,12,13,14) adjacent to normal traffic lights (1). The light fittings are sprung such that when traffic passes over them they are depressed to ground level and then recover to normal level afterwards. A supply box (2) supplies the light fittings through optical fibres (8) and when the normal traffic lights show red the ground level light fittings also show red to give additional warning to oncoming traffic. The fittings are installed on both sides of the crossing and the system may be adapted such that they follow the traffic lights colour by colour. |
