A method of making (U)-3-(aminomethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid from (+/-)-3-(aminomethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid, wherein (+/-)-3-(aminomethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid is compound with (S)-amygdalic or (R)-amygdalic acid in water, alcohol or aqueous-alcohol mixture; enabling to form a coagulum; introducing the coagulum into the polar solvent or into the polar aprotic solvent and water with forming the suspension; isolation of the solid substance from the suspension. The invention also relates to intermediates of such production process.
