The invention relates to a method for producing perbenzylated 1-O-glycosides of general formula I or the salts thereof. In said formula, Sugar<1> represents a monosaccharide functionalised in the 1-OH-position, R represents benzyl, n represents 2, 3 or 4, X represents -COO- or -NH- and L is a straight-chain, branched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C30 carbon chain, which is optionally interrupted or substituted by groups. The inventive method uses cost-effective starting materials, produces good yields and permits the large-scale production of perbenzylated saccharides comprising 1-O functionalised lateral chains.
