Easily available &bgr;−glucocerebrosidase activators, external skin preparations and a method of activating &bgr;−glucocerebrosidase whereby the formation of a horny layer penetration barrier can be improved through the activation of &bgr;−glucocerebrosidase and, as result, it is expected that skin roughness can be ameliorated.
