ON-SCREEN DISPLAY AND ITS CONTROL METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make easily visible a setup menu picture which is displayed over a reproduced picture. SOLUTION: The reproduced picture displayed on a display is divided into a plurality of areas. A color which is dominant in each of the plurality of areas is detected (steps 41 and 42). An area where a color easily distinguishable from the color of the setup menu picture is dominant is determined (step 43). The setup menu picture is displayed in the determined area (steps 44 and 45).
