PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display unit for a vehicle capable of housing a display unit body in an instrument panel even when no wide space is available for increasing a degree of freedom of a housing space. SOLUTION: This display unit for the vehicle is provided with the display unit body 12 housed in the instrument panel 11 while its thickness direction is set in the lateral direction, a projection mechanism part 30 carrying out a projecting operation for projecting the display unit body 12 from the instrument panel 11 while keeping the thickness direction of the display unit body 12 along the lateral direction, and a rotation mechanism part 31 carrying out a rotating operation turning the display unit body 12 for setting the width direction of the display unit body 12 in the lateral direction. In this way, the display unit body 12 is housed in the instrument panel 11 while its thickness direction set in the lateral direction when it is not used.
