OPTICAL BRANCHING DEVICE AND OPTICAL COUPLER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical branching device and an optical coupler which have small optical coupling loss between a translucent medium and optical fibers. SOLUTION: The optical branching device is equipped with the broadcasting type translucent medium 10 and optical fibers 11. The translucent medium 10 has an optical branching part 13 where a plurality of light projection parts 12 are formed and, preferably, a light diffusing means 14 at a light incidence part. The optical branching part 13 has step parts 18 where the light projection parts 12 are formed respectively. The step parts 18 have 45 deg. surfaces which reflect light. Each optical fiber 11 is composed of a core 15 and a clad coating 16 and arranged on the translucent medium 10 so that the core 15 is optically and excellently coupled with a light projection part 12.
