PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical writing type recording medium having a dual CGL structure with a high optical sensitivity, and also to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The optical writing type recording medium using an alternating- current driving method is formed of an optical switching layer and a display element layer 22. The optical switching layer includes a structure such that a transparent substrate 19 with a transparent electrode layer 18b at one surface faces another transparent substrate 19 with a transparent electrode layer 18a at one surface so as to interpose the transparent electrode layer 18a, 18b therebetween. A pair of electric charge generating layers 10, 14, including at least an electric charge generating material, are arranged between the transparent electrode layers 18a, 18b so as to sandwitch an electric charge transporting layer 12 including an electric charge transporting material. When the ionization potential of the electric charge generating material is determined as Ipcgl and the ionization potential of the electric charge transporting material is determined as Ipctl, the formula:|Ipcgl-Ipctl|<=0.5 eV is satisfied. A method for producing the same is also provided.
