FRICTION MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a squeaking phenomenon caused in initial braking after parking a vehicle in the open air for a long period. SOLUTION: This friction material is obtained by compounding substrate fibers with a binder and a friction modifier and forming the resultant mixture. The friction material is characterized as comprising a hydrophobic silica in an amount of 0.1-3 wt.% when the whole friction material is 100 wt.%. The hydrophobic silica has a particle diameter of preferably 10-40 nm.
