PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for treating garbage in which the accuracy for determining termination of drying operation of garbage is ensured, and undue increase of temperature can be prevented in the treating tank. SOLUTION: A counter IC 63 counts the number of times of reaching a preset first reference time T1 within a lowering time tn measured by a first timer IC 61 and when the count N of the counter IC 63 reaches a preset value Nmax=3, a controller 60 terminates drying operation of garbage. Consequently, undue increase of temperature in the treating tank 12 can be prevented when the garbage contains a large quantity of moisture and the temperature of garbage does not increase significantly. An accuracy for determining termination of drying operation of garbage is thereby ensured, and undue increase of atmospheric temperature can be prevented in the treating tank 12.
