PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition which gives a tire with improved steering performance and productivity. SOLUTION: The rubber composition contains at least one selected from among natural and synthetic rubbers, at least one of a bisphenol compound and a polyphenol compound having a melting point of 140 deg.C or above and at least one of methylene group donors. The tire using the rubber composition as a rubber material is also provided. Desirable bisphenols are 4,4'- dihydroxydiphenylcyclohexane, 4,4'-dihydroxyphenyl sulfone and 4,4'-bis(6-tert- butyl-3-methylphenol). Hexamethylenetetramine and methylolmelamine are used as a methylene group donor.
