PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a build-up welding method of a 13Cr-base alloy which is capable of considerably extending the life of rolls by obstructing the occurrence and progression of thermal cracks even when the 13Cr-base alloy is used in such applications, like pinch rolls for forging slabs, in which the alloy is subjected to vigorous heat cycles. SOLUTION: C is incorporated at 0.15 to 0.43 mass% into the 13Cr-base overlay alloy and a weld heat input is limited to a range from 52 to 71 kJ/cm. The overlay thickness per layer is limited to <=2.5 mm.
