A hinge, which may be made of metal, includes two plates I (Fig. 3) for connection to, for example, mutually swinging components of furniture, and an intermediate member 2 (Fig. 4) in the form of a semi-cylindrical tubular body with a flat wall 7 and cylindrical wall 6. each of the plates having at least one arcuate slide 5, attached to projections 4, which slides pass through the openings 8 of member 2 (the openings 8 on opposite edges of member 2 being longitudinally offset with respect to one another), are curved to conform with the inside walks 6 and 9 of the intermediate member and slide between walls 6 and 9 when the hinge is opened and closed. The openings 8 receive the projections 4 when the hinge is open, so as to permit the flat wall 7 and inner surfaces of the plates (i.e. the surfaces which face one another when the hinge is closed) to lie in a single plane and to stop further opening of the hinge. In the axial direction, the slides 5 may be provided with pins 10, which cooperate with the ends of the tubular body 2 to stop rotation round the plates in the extreme closing position. The position of these pins can be fixed so that, with the hinge closed the flat wall 7 of member 2 is perpendicular or inclined towards the common plane of the plates. |
